October 7th, 2000: Dashain '00 Festival Celebration Party
On the auspicious occasion of great Hindu
festival, Nepal Seattle Society (NSS) hosted a grand celebration
party in Seattle. The party was full of excitement and fun ! More
than 200 guests attended the party including many non-Nepali
friends. It provided a great opportunity to meet old and new
friends in Washington state. The event included exciting Nepali
cultural program, delicious food and a dance party. We believe our
guests enjoyed the party as much as we did. NSS would like to
thank all of those people who worked very hard to make the party a
Blast !!!
Dashain Party 2000 Program Menu
DASHAIN is Nepal's most important and lavishly celebrated
festival. The tenth and final day of festival, “Dashami",
symbolizes the victory of good over evil and is a time to be with
family and relatives to receive blessings from the elders. Schedule:
6:30 PM - 7:30 PM Nepali Cultural Program
7:30 PM - 8:30 PM Food is served (Drink is free)
8:30 PM - 10:30 PM Dance Party
Welcome Speech by Dr. Mukunda Upadhaya, President, Nepal Seattle Society
Dr. Upadhaya will start the program with a few words about Dashain
and our organization.
Dashain Dhoon By Sushil and Basanta Bogati
Dhoon means music in Nepali. This particular "dhoon" is
a very popular tune that is played though out the Dashain festival
all over Nepal. Talented Bogati brothers are here performing with
their instrument "Sitar".
Nepali National Song "Bikash Ko Mul Futaon"
Performed in Group, this national song is very popular in Nepal.
The song calls upon all the Nepalese to contribute for the
development of their motherland.
Folk Song "Bar Ko Chayale" By Sita Gurung
Sita is an excellent singer and dancer, well known among Nepalese
community here in Northwest. The song written by her self is based
on popular folk tune of western Nepal.
Modern Dance "Ko Hola Mero Mayalu ?" By Lily Laemmle
Lily has shown excellent dance performance on numerous Nepali
functions. The song is asking "Who is my lover ?"
Modern Dance "Sapani Bhai Ankha Ma Aune" By Smriti Gurung
Smriti is daughter of Mohan Gurung, founder and ex-president of
Nepal Seattle Society. This song comes from a hit Nepali movie
"Dakchina". The song says, "Who is the person that
comes to my dream…."
Modern Song "Farki Aune" by Sunil Joshi
Sunil is a popular singer among Nepalese community in US. He along
with Bhusan Khanal created "Naulo", a Seattle based
Nepali band. The band has released its first album "Sapani
ma" last year.
Folk Dance "Chautari Bhanjyang" By Sita Gurung
The song says "At resting place underneath the shadow of a
tree in Nepal….". This dance is a typical Gurung folk dance
from Western Nepal.
Modern Dance "Gairi Khet Ko Sirai Hanyuo" By Smriti Gurung
This song has been all time favorite among Nepali worldwide.

July 30th, 2000: Summer Picnic and Society Mass Meeting
NSS hosted Summer Picnic and Society Mass Meeting on a beautiful day at Carkeek Park, NW 100th St, Seattle, WA . About sixty guests attended the picnic which included BBQ and other fun activities. Our chief guest was Ex- Minister of Nepal, Mr. JhalNath
Khanal. He was here on his way back to Nepal after attending Millennium Nepali Conference in Atlanta.
The meeting bid farewell to the society's founder President Mr. Mohan
Gurung, who moved to IOWA state for work. The society would like to thank him for all his efforts and precious time devoted for the society's cause. The meeting nominated Dr. Mukunda Upadhya as Acting President till elections are held for the executive committee.

April 30th , 2000: Nepali New Year 2057 Party !
Nepal Seattle Society hosted Nepali New Year 2057 celebration party at beautiful Edmonds, marked by fabulous cultural program, delicious Nepali food and lots of fun ! More than 100 guests attended the party. NSS would like to thank all the individuals who volunteered to contribute their precious time and efforts to make this party a very enjoyable one.
